Comprehensive table including all the occurrence records of the Global EPTO Database.
Main type of variables contained: A total of 8,368,467 occurrence records globally, of which 8,319,689 (99%) are publicly available. Each record is attributed to the corresponding drainage basin and sub-catchment based on the high-resolution Hydrography90m dataset and is accompanied by the elevation value of its location based on the MERIT Hydro Digital Elevation Model. In addition, we added for each record the information regarding the respective freshwater ecoregion and protected area status.
Spatial location and grain: The database the global spatial extent, with 86% of the observation records having coordinates with at least four decimal digits, corresponding to a 11.1 m precision at the equator, in the WGS84 coordinate reference system.
Time period and grain: Sampling years span from 1951 to 2021. 99% of the records have information on the year of the observation, 95% on the year and month, while 94% have a complete date, including the day of observation. In the case of 7 sub-datasets, e
Major taxa and level of measurement: Ephemeroptera, , Trichoptera and Odonata at the genus taxonomic level.We provide species names for 7,727,980 (93%) records without further taxonomic verification.
50 datasets are included in the file 'Global_EPTO_Database.csv' (zipped). The link to each individual dataset is available in the 'Table_S1.pdf' and in the column ‘-DOI’ within the dataset.

FRED provides all metadata of this package in a maschine readable format. There is a pure XML file and one EML file in Ecological Metadata Language. Both files are published under the freeODC-ByLicence.
