It is surrounded by buildings (on average 10 m distance) and vegetation is a mosaic of extensive grassland and mature trees (~30-100 years old). Groundwater levels directly at the site are ~4 m below the ground surface&nbsp;(Umweltatlas Berlin, 2020)&nbsp;with limited annual variability (&lt; 0.15 m).&nbsp;<span>The study period was from April 1st&nbsp;to November 1st&nbsp;2022 (i.e. a full vegetative period). Climate data (air temperature, precipitation amount, wind speed and direction, relative humidity, air pressure, global radiation) were accessed from the rooftop of IGB ~300 m away. On-site, we measured precipitation<a style="display: inline-block; -webkit-user-modify: read-only; user-select: all; background-position-x: 50%; background-position-y: 50%; cursor: default;" name="_Hlk129965929"></a>&nbsp;at the open grassland&nbsp;and relative humidity at the maple tree stem at 2 m height in south-east direction.</span>&nbsp;</span><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;">Stable water isotopes of atmospheric water vapour (&delta;v) and plant xylem water (&delta;xyl) were measured in situ real-time and sequentially (automatic switch of tube) via cavity ring-down spectroscopy.&nbsp;</span><span style="font-size: 12pt; line-height: 107%; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;">&nbsp;</span></p>
