Six pairs of standardized fine-mesh and coarse-mesh litter bags (filled with 4 g air-dried Alnus glutinosa leaf litter) were deployed at 6 near-shore sites selected along 200 km of the Oder River in November 2022, 2023, and 2024. The bags were retrieved 3 to 4 months after exposure to determine litter decomposition rates, fungal biomass, microbial respiration, sporulation of aquatic hyphomycetes, and leaf-associated macroinvertebrate and fungal community composition.
