ODER~SO | Oder River Disaster 2022 | Data | SP10a | MZB_River
## Description
This data set contains habitat-specific macrozoobenthos abundance data taken from different locations along the Oder River from Ratzdorf to Gartz. The data was obtained from two sampling trips (November 2022 and June 2023). The creation of a more comprehensive dataset containing data from this data package and other sampling trips is in progress.

## Dataset Context
This data was collected as part of the ODER~SO investigation program, subproject 10a - Benthic invertebrates in the wadeable area.
The specific aim of this research project is to investigate the impacts of disturbance events on benthic invertebrates/macrozoobenthos (MZB) based on the Oder River disaster. By conducting this study, we aim to contribute to a broader understanding of the impacts of Prymnesium parvum on benthic invertebrate species and the recovery of benthic invertebrates after a mass kill event.
## Limitations and Quality
The scientific names were verified using tables from https://gewaesser-bewertung-berechnung.de/index.php/perlodes-online.html (Perlodes Online Version 5.1 Dokumentation Teil IV Tabellen. Stand September 2025. Heruntergeladen am 03.11.2025), these tables and National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI)[Internet] were also used to obtain information about the taxa (for perlodes list and NCBI source see references section).
For the creation of the data set RStudio and Excel were used, including the R packages: openxlsx, tidyverse and readxl (see references).
The following groups were removed from/are not included in the data set:
- Hydrachnidia Gen. sp.
- Bryozoa
- Coelenterata
- Unionidae (Unionidae are recorded with an additional mussel mapping)
- Branchiura
- Cambaridae
- Collembola
- Porifera
The Taxa of the following families are only included at family level or a higher taxonomic level
- Corbiculidae
- Sphaeriidae
Samples were taken and benthic invertebrate individuals were sorted and identified by different persons. The data quality depends on knowledge and experience of these persons.
further limitations:
- loss of parts of the material during material collection and samples processing
- overlooked animals and miscounting during sorting/identification
- changes in taxonomic names and usage of different identification keys
